Timeshare Sellers BEWARE!

I want to share a personal experience. I received a phone call from an upfront fee timeshare resale company last week. The representative thought I was a timeshare owner of a Marriott Grand Residence Club. I was surprised I was being approached, but continued to listen. I was given an opportunity to learn from his selling approach. He delivered his company's pitch loaded with inaccurate statements and inflated values. He said I should price my timeshare at a much higher price than current market values which would give me a higher amount of proceeds. This is an old ploy to get the seller to list. Next he told me his companies advance fee requirements. Finally I revealed to him my ownership of a timeshare resale company. He was surprised to find out that we do not charge up front fees. I felt compelled to defend myself further by telling him we are sales people with a conscience. I was insulted when he said "do you know what a sales person with a conscience is?" He answered himself by saying "a BROKE salesman!" I corrected him by saying we have never charged up front fees and are very successful selling our clients timeshares. He lost interest in me and quickly hung up.

My staff and I hear almost daily how sellers have been robbed by timeshare company scams. They insist they can sell the timeshare for an unrealistic price and that their company's policy is to collect an advance fee of $300-$700 to list their timeshare. After paying the fee, seller's never hear from the scammer's again.
